Biography

Jan has been with the Phoenix Police Department for 24 years. She has been a member of the Special Assignments Unit for 18 years and has served in the capacity of a primary negotiator for the last 14 years. Today, she is the negotiation team coordinator and the units’ full time training officer. As the training officer Jan is responsible for all unit level training to include negotiations, firearms, precision rifle, SCBA and WMD.

Jan has received several hundred hours of negotiation related training and has been involved in over 200 barricade incidents. She is the Crisis Negotiation Section Chairperson for the National Tactical Officer’s Association and their lead negotiation instructor. In addition to the NTOA she also teaches basic and advanced classes in Crisis Negotiation for the Phoenix Police Department, as well as First Responder and 911/Dispatcher classes at Glendale Community College. Jan is an Arizona Post Certified general and firearms instructor. She has a teaching certificate from the State of Arizona and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Arizona State University.
